How to Extract Guitar Chords from a Song

Upload a track and AI isolates the guitar, then detects the chords and lines them up with the timeline. You get a chord chart you can play along to — no ear training, no manual transcription. Works in your browser, nothing to install.

  1. 1

    Upload your track

Drag an MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A or MP4 file onto the drop zone, or click it to browse your device. Files up to 200 MB and 8 minutes of audio are supported.

  2. 2

Let the model isolate the guitar

The file is sent to our separation model, which splits the mix and pulls the guitar part out on its own. This is what makes chord detection accurate — a chord detector that hears drums, bass and vocals at the same time will guess wrong.

  3. 3

    Read the chord chart

The guitar track is analysed and returned as a chord sheet synced to the timeline. Each chord shows the name and the timestamp it starts at, so you can jump to any section.

  4. 4

    Practise along

Click the Practice button to open the chord studio with the chart preloaded — synced timeline, fingering diagrams, and the key and BPM detected for you.

AI Chord Recognition Frequently Asked Questions

Which audio formats can I upload?

MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A and MP4 files are supported, up to 200 MB per file and 8 minutes of audio.

How accurate is the chord detection?

Accuracy depends on the mix. Clean acoustic or electric guitar parts with long, sustained chords are detected reliably. Heavily distorted metal, fast fingerpicking, or songs with multiple guitar layers are harder — treat the output as a starting point and fix any odd chords by ear.

Why does it need to separate the guitar first?

A chord detector that hears the full mix has to guess which notes came from the guitar. Vocals sit in the same range as guitar notes, drums add transient noise, and the bass overlaps the low strings. Isolating the guitar first removes all three problems, which is why the result is far more accurate than running chord detection on the full song.

How much does it cost?

The first 30 seconds are free so you can judge the quality before paying. After that, 1 credit covers 30 seconds of audio, and credits never expire.

Can I export the chords?

Yes. The chord chart can be exported as a MIDI file, ready to drop into your DAW, and the Practice button hands the full chart off to the chord studio so you can play along right away.

Do I need to install any software?

No. Separation happens on our servers and the chord chart runs in your browser, so it works on Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS and Android without a plugin.

Can I use the detected chords commercially?

The chord chart is generated for personal practice and creative use. If you plan to release something commercially, make sure you hold the rights to the source audio and comply with the licences of any models involved.
