How to Convert Audio to MIDI
Converting audio to MIDI gives you the actual notes, timing and dynamics of a performance, ready to edit in any DAW. Our AI isolates the instrument you choose, transcribes it, and lets you preview the piano roll in your browser before downloading the .mid file.
- 1
Select your target instrument
Choose whether you want to extract guitar, bass, piano, or drums from your audio. The AI will route your file to the specific transcription model tuned for that instrument.
- 2
Upload your audio track
Drag an MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A or MP4 file onto the drop zone. For the most accurate MIDI, we recommend uploading an isolated audio track (like a stem), rather than a full complex mix.
- 3
Let the AI transcribe it
The model separates the track and runs a pitch and onset detection algorithm to find every note, its velocity, and its duration. This usually takes about a minute.
- 4
Preview the MIDI in your browser
Once finished, the interactive Piano Roll and Guitar Tab will unlock automatically. Press play to hear a synthesized preview and visually check that the notes match your original audio.
- 5
Download the .mid file
Click the download button to save the standard MIDI file. You can drop this directly into Ableton, Logic Pro, FL Studio, or any other DAW to use with your favorite virtual instruments.
AI MIDI Converter Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between audio and MIDI?
Audio (like an MP3) is a recording of sound waves. MIDI is a set of data instructions (note pitch, length, and velocity) that tells a virtual instrument what to play. Converting audio to MIDI lets you change the instrument, fix wrong notes, or remix the melody.
Which audio formats can I upload?
MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A and MP4 files are supported, up to 200 MB per file and 8 minutes of audio.
How accurate is the MIDI extraction?
Accuracy depends heavily on the audio source. Clean, single-instrument tracks (like isolated vocals, bass, or piano) transcribe very accurately. Complex mixes or distorted guitars may produce extra "ghost notes" that require minor cleanup in your DAW.
Can I convert drums to MIDI?
Yes. When you select Drums, the AI maps the detected hits to standard General MIDI drum notes, which you can then use to trigger any drum machine or sample library in your DAW.
Can I load a previous MIDI conversion?
Yes. Your recent conversions are saved in the "Recent MIDI Conversions" list below the player. Click "Load MIDI" to instantly bring it back into the piano roll preview, or "Download" to save the file again.
