How to Find Your Vocal Range
Your vocal range is the span between the lowest and highest notes you can sing comfortably — not the extremes you can force on a good day. This tool listens to your voice and measures where it actually sits.
- 1
Allow microphone access
Press Start Microphone Test and accept the browser permission prompt. The audio is analysed on your device and is not uploaded.
- 2
Sing your lowest comfortable note
Start near the bottom of your voice. Sing a steady "Ah" or "Ooh" vowel — a pure vowel gives the pitch detector a cleaner signal than words do.
- 3
Slide up to your highest comfortable note
Move upwards gradually. Stop at the point where the note stops feeling easy rather than pushing into strain.
- 4
Read your result
The tool shows your lowest and highest detected notes, the note and frequency it is hearing right now, and a voice-type classification based on your span.
Vocal Range Finder Frequently Asked Questions
What voice types can it identify?
It sorts your span into standard categories such as bass, baritone, tenor, alto, mezzo-soprano and soprano.
Why does my result change between attempts?
Vocal range shifts with warm-up, time of day and how tired you are. Run the test a few times and take the range you can repeat reliably.
Is my audio uploaded to a server?
No. Pitch detection runs in your browser with the Web Audio API, so nothing leaves your device.
How loudly should I sing?
Sing at a comfortable, conversational volume. Too quiet and the detector cannot lock onto the pitch; too loud and the microphone clips.
