Tap BPM Counter Frequently Asked Questions
How many taps do I need?
Two taps produce a first reading, but the average keeps improving with every tap. For the most accurate result, tap along for several bars before copying the BPM.
Why does the BPM keep changing while I tap?
The tool uses a rolling average of your most recent tap intervals. Slight timing variations move the number while you tap; once you settle into a steady rhythm it converges on the true tempo.
Can I tap with my keyboard?
Yes. Pressing the Spacebar is identical to clicking the pad, which makes it easy to keep one hand free while you listen or play.
Does this tool use my microphone?
No. Tempo is measured purely from your taps, so there is no microphone access and nothing is ever uploaded or recorded.
How accurate is the detected BPM?
Tapped steadily, the reading is accurate to within a few BPM. Tap over a longer window for higher precision — the more taps, the tighter the average.
